The Luxor Hotel and Casino and Treasure Island are the newest Las Vegas Strip establishments facing lawsuits claiming that guests were bitten by bed bugs while visiting. 

The Luxor is dealing with two complaints from different guests — one from Stephen and Courtney Gully of Illinois, who visited the hotel from June 7 to June 10, 2024, and another from Brianna McKenzie, who stayed there from July 16 to July 18, 2024, according to 8NewsNow. 

Teresa Bruce of Los Angeles stayed at Treasure Island from June 20 to June 23, when she was "massacred" by the creatures, as stated in the third lawsuit. 

All grievances were submitted on April 29 to the Clark County Court, and the three plaintiffs are all represented by the same lawyer, Brian Virag. 

Errors within the System 

Bed bugs are small blood-feeding insects that typically reside in soiled mattresses. They consume blood from humans and animals using their sharp mouths. They leave brown fecal marks on linens and possess glands that release an aroma, often referred to as “disgustingly sweet raspberries.” 

The bites may result in painful itching, rashes, and various allergic responses, potentially leading to scars. 

A report from the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) in October 2024 stated that insects were discovered at the Bellagio, Cosmopolitan, Resorts World, and Hilton Grand Vacation Club between February and August 2024. The list showed that pests are not limited to budget hotels and can also impact some of the finest offerings in Las Vegas. 

The unfortunate findings at Luxor and Treasure Island raise the total to 19 Las Vegas Strip resorts where bed bugs have been detected since 2021. 

The list also features, arranged alphabetically: Caesars Palace, Circus Circus, Encore, Excalibur, MGM Grand, Mirage, Palazzo, Park MGM, Planet Hollywood, Sahara, The Strat, Tropicana, and Venetian. 

The lawsuit filed by Gullys claims that Courtney Gully experienced a reaction to insect bites that resulted in her throat swelling and feeling as though it was constricting. She was transported to the nearby hospital and administered medication, but she needed to be evaluated in the hospital parking area due to concerns of infestation. 

Once Stung ... 

In Bruce’s situation, Treasure Island dispatched its risk management team to the room following her report of the bites. They verified the existence of bed bugs, and she was relocated to a different room. However, Bruce observed additional bites on her body the following day. 

According to the lawsuit, staff later verified that there were also issues in the substitute room.

"The hotel operator has a responsibility to make sure that that room is bed bug-free,” Virag told 8 NewsNow. “It doesn’t matter if you’re paying $60 a night for a room, or $600 a night for a room. The obligation on the hotel operator is the same – you have to keep the guests safe.”

The plaintiffs assert that the insects have caused them physical and emotional trauma and are seeking monetary compensation.
