Ontario’s regulated online gaming sector recorded a total of CAD$9.478 billion in cash bets in May, marking the fourth-highest monthly figure since the inception of the market four years ago, based on financial statistics published by iGaming Ontario today.
Although the handle for May showed a 2% increase from April, it was just short of the highest historical market figure of $9.592 billion set in March.
In terms of revenue, Ontario reported $413.1 million in gross gaming revenue that was not adjusted (NAGGR)—the second-largest monthly total ever achieved, only behind the record amount of $425.6 million from December 2025.
Currently, the number of licensed operators in Ontario has reached 46, overseeing a total of 80 gaming platforms. Many of the industry leaders, such as FanDuel and DraftKings, have focused significantly on standalone casino offerings, responding to the notable demand for iCasino products across the region.
Examining the distribution of total cash wagers, online casino games held a remarkable 88% of the market in May, with a total of $8.371 billion, reflecting a 3% increase from the previous month. In contrast, sports betting constituted 10% of the handle, amounting to $972 million (a 7% decrease from April), while peer-to-peer poker accounted for 1% ($134 million), which indicates a 5% rise compared to the prior month.
Although the count of active player accounts decreased marginally by 1% to 1.257 million in comparison to April, measures of monetization showed marked improvement. The average revenue per active player account climbed by 3% month-over-month to reach $329. This steadiness underscores the market's structural durability, with the portion of total handle from online casino games never falling below 85% in the past year.
On the revenue front, online casinos collected $326.4 million in May, capturing a 79% share of NAGGR and demonstrating a 4% increase from the previous month. Sportsbooks earned $81.3 million (20% share, down 5% from April), while poker revenues contributed $5.4 million (1% share, an increase of 2%).
This highly lucrative environment continues to thrive due to swift legal adoption. A collaborative report issued by iGaming Ontario and the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) indicates that 91.1% of online gamblers in the province now exclusively engage with regulated platforms.
